The Construction Department is responsible for the construction management and coordination of renovations and additions to existing schools as well the construction of new schools. We are responsible to obtain Ministry of Education approvals as required for the various projects. Working closely with Architects and Engineers we strive to design and build schools which are safe, functional, and economical to build and operate. Our buildings also need to inspire learning and community, at the same time addressing the unique requirements of our Catholic Faith.

Renewal Plan – Annual Update

The Maintenance Department is responsible for servicing and repairing all building structures, electrical, HVAC, mechanical equipment and grounds for all sites. Our goal is to provide a safe and comfortable environment for all who enter our buildings.

The Facility Operations Department ensures our buildings are clean and safe for our students, staff, and school community.

Energy

The Facility Services Energy Conservation Department cultivates Board wide conservation efforts. Sharing expertise, supporting problem-solving, promoting awareness of support program availability and celebrating energy saving achievements help WCDSB to overcome barriers to energy conservation. Our goals foster effective energy efficiency and energy conservation measures in all our schools, offices and surrounding community in general through productive relationships with municipalities, their LDCs and, Provincial and Federal government entities.

The Energy Conservation Department is also actively addressing long-term sustainability initiatives and practices in the following key areas: Water, Purchasing and Waste; Buildings and Grounds; Food and Drink; Inclusion and Participation; and Local Well-being. This is in keeping with the guidance of Pope Francis in his historic encyclical, Laudato si’ – On Care for our Common Home as well as the WCDSB’s own mission and vision.

Our Catholic schools are the heart of the community providing success for each and a place for all.   They add to the spiritual, educational, recreational, and social development of all who share it.  School facilities provide a place to come together, volunteer, build skills, access community programs, become physically active and build strong and healthy communities.  Planning an event? Organizing a sports group? Need a meeting space?  Waterloo Catholic schools are becoming hubs of our community and it’s happening across the province.
Community Use of Schools (CUS) is an initiative of the Ministry of Education that supports access to school space outside of school hours for not-for-profit community groups (To read more, click Here).  Our school facilities are available for community use from September through June, Monday to Friday from 6:00 –10:30 pm, and form 8:00am-10pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Our schools are not open for community use during Christmas, March and Summer Breaks, Statutory Holidays, Secondary School exams, or Professional Activity (PA) Days.
A subsidy for a user group for an event is not a guarantee or commitment that future events will be subsidized in the same manner. Our primary goal is to subsidize local not for profit organizations who provide support and programming for local youth (under the age of 18 or under the age of 28 for participants with a disability).
