Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion: A Transformational Lens
In our Catholic/Christian tradition, we have a moral imperative to act intentionally to ensure those we serve – staff, students and communities – are treated with respect and dignity. We work intentionally to disrupt oppressive systems for the benefit of future generations.
Equity
Ensuring every student has access to the specific opportunities, supports, resources, and conditions they need to succeed, recognizing that students have different identities, experiences, strengths, and barriers. Equity focuses on fairness of outcomes, not sameness of treatment.
Diversity
The presence and representation of a wide range of identities, backgrounds, experiences, cultures, languages, abilities, beliefs, and perspectives within a learning community. Diversity reflects who is in the room.
Inclusion
The intentional creation of learning environments where all students feel respected, valued, supported, and able to fully participate, contribute, and thrive. Inclusion reflects how people experience being in the room.
Belonging
The feeling of being accepted, affirmed, connected, and appreciated for one’s authentic self within the school community. Belonging exists when students know they are not only included, but genuinely welcomed, seen, and valued as integral members of the community.
