School Health Support Services

School Health Support Services

WCDSB works in partnership with the Waterloo Wellington Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) and Kids ability to coordinate provision of school health support services for students with special needs. School staff are able to make referrals to LHIN for Nursing and referrals to Kids ability for Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy. In addition, the school board Speech Language Pathologist can make referrals to Kids ability for Speech Pathology support. LHIN and Kids ability determines eligibility for a range of school health support services in order to provide health care for students so that they may participate at school. The school health support services that may be provided, once eligibility is determined include:

  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Nursing
  • Speech Pathology

WCDSB also has a number of Administrative Procedures in place to provide information and protocols for specific health related situations such as Anaphylaxis/Severe Allergic Reaction, Administration of Oral Medication and so on.

These administrative procedures can be located on the WCDSB website in the About Us section of the main website under Policies and Administration.
