Vulnerable Sector Check Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. As part of the requirements under the Supporting Children and Students Act, the Board must ensure compliance by obtaining an up-to-date Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) prior to individuals volunteering/supporting classroom field trip activities within our schools.

Volunteers are responsible for costs associated with obtaining the VSC.

If you require assistance, please use the OPP location detachment link to assist with determining where you may need to go to initiate the VSC/CRJMC process.

Most OPP detachments offer online services. You will need to visit your OPP website to initiate the process. If you live in Waterloo Region, please use the Waterloo Regional Police Services (WRPS) check request process.

Yes, we can accept a VSC that is dated within 6 months from receipt date of the initial Principal request.

No, we are unable to accept VSC as it is outside the 6-month period. You will need to request a new VSC/CRJMC from the appropriate local Police Service or OPP Detachment.

No. Current WCDSB employees are not required to complete the online volunteer application or submit a VSC, as Human Resource Services can verify required information already on file.

Please note that Principals retain discretion to determine whether the volunteer activity is appropriate for staff participation.

Please contact the School Principal directly.
