St. Gregory Overview

St. Gregory Catholic School may be a small school, but the staff and students sure do have big hearts!

St. Gregory Catholic Elementary School is located in southwest Galt built in two stages. The original section of the school facing Osborne Street was constructed in 1957. An addition to the school was constructed in 1967 which included a gymnasium. Masses were held in the gym for 2 years until St. Gregory Church was completed in 1969. With a current enrolment of 181 students, St. Gregory School is considered small in comparison to other schools in the Waterloo Catholic District School Board. We have 9 classrooms from JK/K to grade 7/8.

Our school is named after St. Gregory the Great who is the patron saint of musicians, singers, students and teachers. Our school motto is, “the proof of love is in the works”, which is a quote from St. Gregory. Our school colours are green, gold & black and we are the Hawks!

Over the years, St. Gregory School has participated in many fundraisers, all of them successful. Each year our school participates in the Terry Fox Run, Thanksgiving Food Drive, and Operation Christmas Child – where staff and students bring in toys and other items to fill boxes that we then send to children in Africa. One of our grade 5 students brought in 3 large boxes of food for our Food Drive this year; this speaks to the commitment and generosity of our students and school community.

We have a number of very athletic students who attend St. Gregory School. We are fortunate to have teachers who are willing to share their time and talents coaching our students. Our athletic teams include: soccer, baseball, basketball, volleyball, cross-country, track & field and intramurals.

Our school is also involved in a number of other clubs and committees. Some of our annual committees include: the Social Justice Team, Spirit Committee, ECO Schools Team, and the Intramural Program to name a few. The ECO Team has organized litter-less lunches every Wednesday, and the Intramural Program is an opportunity for the grade 7/8 students to organize and run games for the younger students during recesses and the lunch hour. We appreciate the commitment of our teachers and support staff for taking the lead on the numerous extra-curricular activities that we provide for our students.

St. Gregory School is a fantastic school where we learn to share, respect others and have fun. Many students agree that attending this school has given them a lot of experience working with other people. We have all had lots of fun, learned great things, and have made many great friends.
