St. Bernadette Overview

Together We Can Make a Difference

St. Bernadette Catholic Elementary School opened in 1953 in Kitchener, Ontario. It is named after its patron Saint – Saint Bernadette. As a young girl, Bernadette was visited by Jesus’ mother Mary and her devotion to God and strong faith are qualities our school community emulates as we strive to live the gospel message and work together to make a difference in our local and global community. We work together to create a safe and nurturing learning environment and building community is an important part of who we are. Our POP – the Positive Observation Penguin School Reward Program – recognizes and celebrates all we do toward building positive relationships, success for each and a place for all.

As a Catholic school community, our faith at St. Bernadette Catholic School is mirrored in a variety of activities that range from morning reflection during opening announcements to school wide or classroom based liturgies which are enhanced through active student and staff participation. We work hard to develop positive and reciprocal relationships with our community partners and foster the parent-school-church triad. With St. Joseph Church Parish, our students are blessed to participate in monthly masses, strong sacramental program and classroom visits from our priests. We have monthly virtue assemblies to promote positive relationships and environmental practices in our school. We are proud in our first year our school won a silver designation from Ontario Eco Schools.

Our school community actively responds to social justice issues by making a difference in our local and global community. Over the years, we have raised money or collected items for many worthy causes such as Food Drives, Jump Rope for Heart, Free the Children We Day Initiatives and our Free For All event. Through various generous agencies, we offer free clothing and household items to our community during the Advent season.

St. Bernadette Catholic Elementary School collaborates with many partners to coexist as the “Heart of the Community.” The Saint Vincent De Paul Society and Mill Courtland Community Centre are also important members of this community team and we work together on various initiatives (food drives, food hampers, Christmas Angel Tree Program, etc.) to be of support to our families when needs arise.

St. Bernadette Catholic Elementary School recognizes the importance to our communities and respect diversity, celebrate multiculturalism and embrace the social values of collective responsibility. We are a school unlike any other. We are proud of our nurturing community that wraps around our students and ensures their success.
