Our Lady of Lourdes Overview
Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Elementary School is a community rich in traditions and faith. We are located in central Waterloo, within walking distance of Uptown.
Lourdes opened its doors in September of 1949. We were built as a result of overcrowded conditions at St. Louis School. Sister Xavier led the school with its 159 students, and a staff of two sisters and two lay teachers.
Numerous additions and renovations have been made to Lourdes since its opening. Today, Lourdes’ enrolment is approaching 290 students (JK-Grade 8). Currently we have 12 classrooms, a thriving extended day program, and a total of about 35 staff.
Lourdes prides itself on its heritage and celebrates its vision of “Being the Light of Jesus for Others”. We are called to serve one another. We remain a vibrant model of Catholic education, maintaining focus on our Catholic Graduate Expectations.
Embracing Waterloo Catholic District School Board’s pastoral plan has led us to be “People of Love”. We follow the teachings of the gospel, living out our vision and mission daily. Artifacts are regularly created and displayed to be physical reminders of our priorities.
Our Lady of Lourdes appreciates the spiritual guidance and support of our parish, Father Edward Hughes, Father Rafal Tomon, and Paula Rush, our parish youth catechist. We value the strong support of Mrs. Aldworth, our parents and community, truly working together in the best interest of the child. These strong bonds have resulted in many charitable donations and successful community support campaigns.
Lourdes values and focuses on academic excellence. Student achievement is a priority, creating global minded individuals who collaborate and communicate, create and innovate, while thinking critically and creatively. We encourage a growth mindset and a high level of perseverance in all of our students.
Our Lady of Lourdes maintains its positive culture and supportive environment because of our students. Their voice, leadership and inclusivity make Lourdes the amazing school it is. We strive to embody the “Heart of the Community, Success for Each and a Place for All”.
