Students at Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School will soon have a new place to learn, practice, compete and stay active all winter long, with a seasonal sports dome set to open at the school this November.
The air-supported dome will cover Notre Dame’s full artificial turf field, creating a large, fully weatherized indoor athletic space during the months when winter weather would normally limit outdoor programming. The dome will be heated to a comfortable temperature for sports and activities, giving students a reliable space no matter the conditions outside.

What it means for students
- A full-field indoor athletic space throughout the winter
- Exclusive school use on all school days, with access after the last bell for school team practices when requested
- More dependable space for physical education, athletics, team practices and other approved school activities
- Much greater use of the turf field during months when weather would otherwise restrict access
Here for the winter, open air for the spring
One of the most unique features of the dome is that it’s seasonal. It will be installed each fall, generally between mid-October and early November, and removed each spring, generally from late April into May. Students will benefit from a protected indoor facility through the colder months, while the track and field return to open-air use for the warmer season.
“We look forward to seeing this new space come to life and, most importantly, seeing how students and staff make it part of daily life at Notre Dame,” said Adrian Frigula, Senior Manager of Facilities.
More information will be shared as the dome’s opening approaches.

Photos show a similar seasonal dome at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Secondary School in Milton, which uses the same setup as Notre Dame’s dome.
