Nominations are open for the annual WCDSB “Distinguished Graduate Award”, “Community Partner Award” and “Chair’s Award”. Information about the awards is available HERE. If you wish to make a nomination in any of the categories, please complete and submit your application by Monday, April 8th, 2024. Forms can be accessed below.

The Chair’s Award is presented to a person (or group of people) in the school system who has contributed significantly to Catholic Education. It is given annually in recognition of outstanding contributions made in serving the students, staff and greater community of Waterloo Region and/or to the betterment of Catholic Education in Ontario in general.

The Community Partner Award is presented annually in recognition of outstanding contributions made to Waterloo Region’s Catholic Schools by a community partner or agency serving the students, staff and greater community of Waterloo Region.
Distinguished Graduate Award Nomination Form: https://lf.wcdsb.ca/Forms/BD002F
The Distinguished Graduate Award was established in 2005 under the Board’s “Celebration of Excellence” policy. It is presented annually to a graduate of 10 or more years from Waterloo Region’s Catholic Schools who has provided an outstanding example of the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations in action. The award is presented at the graduation exercises of the recipient’s Secondary School or another appropriate public venue.

We are pleased to formally announce the election of Matteo Leone of Monsignor Doyle CSS and Allison Hannah Berwick of Resurrection CSS as Student Trustees for the Waterloo Catholic District School Board. This marks a significant achievement, reflecting their exemplary leadership qualities and the trust placed in them by their peers.
The roles they will assume are vital in ensuring that the student body is well-represented within our educational framework. Their election is a testament to their commitment to the betterment of our schools and community at large. We eagerly anticipate the positive impact their contributions will have on our community and extend our full support to Matteo and Allison as they embark on their tenure.

DAVID A. ROBERTSON is a two-time winner of the Governor General’s Literary Award, has won the TD Canadian Children’s Literature Award, as well as the Writer’s Union of Canada Freedom to Read award. He has received several other accolades for his work as a writer for children and adults, podcaster, public speaker, and social advocate. He was honoured with a Doctor of Letters by the University of Manitoba for outstanding contributions in the arts and distinguished achievements in 2023. He is a member of Norway House Cree Nation and lives in Winnipeg.

Dear WCDSB Families,
Please be advised that the Professional Activity (PA) Day originally scheduled for April 19, 2024, will now be held on April 8, 2024. This change is being made to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff during the Total Solar Eclipse expected on April 8, 2024.
Looking directly at the Sun causes serious eye damage, especially during a solar eclipse.
To watch a solar eclipse safely, you need eye protection that has been designed for watching a solar eclipse (i.e., meets the ISO 12312-2 standard). Sunglasses are not sufficient to protect your eyes. In addition, viewing any part of a solar eclipse through a smartphone camera, a camera lens, binoculars, or a telescope without a special-purpose solar filter secured over the front of the optics will cause serious eye damage.
