Boardmaker
What is Boardmaker
Boardmaker provides symbols and pre-made curriculum to help students access their learning. It has a vast collection of standardized picture symbols used for communication with students who are strong visual learners. In addition it has a collection of social and emotional learning tools, including books, software, and visual schedules.
Types of Boardmaker Activities that can support learning:
| Communication Boards:
A communication board is a device that displays photos, symbols, or illustrations to help people with limited language skills express themselves. The user can gesture, point to, or blink at images to communicate with others. Communication boards are one type of augmentative or alternative communication (AAC) device. |

| Language Activities
Boardmaker 7 has thousands of language activities that touch on all aspects of the early learning curriculum from sounds, symbols, letter identification, word matching, books, etc… WCDSB also has access to Boardmaker Core First Learning helps students learn the meaning, use, and placement of 28 high frequency core words. The instructional sequence includes a series of reading, writing, and language activities that complement each other. WCDSB also has access to Boardmaker Reading Avenue which accessible, comprehensive curriculum available for supporting pre-reading and reading skills. It includes three levels, eight thematic units, 120 books, more than 1,000 activities, games, data collection, and more |

Boardmaker has a wide variety of pre-made and ready-made templates for number sense; number sense representation; spatial sense; measurement; estimation; patterns; problem solving etc… Boardmaker also has a huge resource of all other Learning Activities including Science, social studies etc…. |

Access to Boardmaker at school
- Boardmaker accounts are assigned by Special Education Teachers for individual students who need multi-media activities/schedules/visuals to support their daily learning as based on their IEP’s. Please contact your SET.
Access to Boardmaker at home
- If your son/daughter has been provided a Boardmaker account at school to meet their learning needs, then Boardmaker can be accessed at home on a home device using the ipad app, or installed on a home Chromebook and/or other device (laptop). Please discuss with your son/daughter’s special education teacher.
- Your special education teacher will provide you with their login credentials so that their activities can be accessed at home for additional learning/practice. Please discuss further with your son/daughter’s special education teacher.
