Extended Day Program

The Waterloo Catholic District School Board is pleased to offer a fee based Extended Day Program for children from Kindergarten to grade 6. The program provides children with opportunities to expand their knowledge through a variety of activities. Children will be exposed to situations that will stimulate their curiosity, independence, and communication skills. The Extended Day Programs are delivered by teams of Registered Early Childhood Educators (RECEs) who are members of the College of Early Childhood Educators. They are dedicated to providing faith based, quality, educational programming. All staff members have a deep and extensive knowledge of child development and the skills required to provide an enriched play-based educational program complementing the Kindergarten curriculum. Having an educator from the school day provides a seamless, consistent, and secure experience for both parents and children. The Extended Day Program offers parents a convenient school location, with equity of access in a safe and healthy environment for young children.

Registration for Extended Day/Before and After School Programs for the 2025/2026 school year opens in Spring 2025!

These programs qualify for the reduced daily rate under the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care Agreement (CWELCC).

For more information about the program and updates on registration, please visit our Extended Day page. Updates will also be shared on our main board website.

Please refer to the WCDSB Extended Day Program Website and the Extended Day Frequently Asked Questions for more information or reach out to extended.day@wcdsb.ca.

Update on Schedule Changes

Please note that the schedule change feature will be available for families in OneList beginning Friday October 11, 2024. Thank you for your patience as we worked with the vendor, OneHSN, to restore this functionality. As per the schedule change process outlined in our Parent Handbook your child may attend full time or part time; however, they must attend a minimum of two days per week to remain enrolled.

There are some changes to this feature this year:

  • A child must maintain a continuous schedule of a minimum of 2 days a week to remain in the program.
  • Children must be registered in Before and/or After school care in order to attend Break weeks or Professional Development day programs.

WCDSB is thrilled to announce that all of our Extended Day Programs are now licensed by the Child Care Quality Assurance and Licensing, Early Years Division of the Ministry of Education.   With this licensing comes the Canada Wide Early Learning and Child Care (CWELCC) funding that allows us to offer reduced rates to children in JK/SK/under the age of 6.  Being able to offer reduced rates to our families with the CWELCC funding supports our vision, “Our Catholic Schools: the heart of the community— success for each, a place for all.”

Information about CWELCC

Information about CWELCC in Waterloo Region and how it applies to you as a parent

Between January and April each year, families are asked to express their interest in having their child(ren) attend the Extended Day Program during the upcoming school year (September 2024 to June 2025). The Board uses this information to determine space, staffing needs and expanding programs.

To pre-register, please log into your OneList Waterloo Region account. When prompted to pre-register, click Yes and your child will be added to the pre-registration list for next school year. You will receive an email in late June asking you to confirm your child’s schedule for the 2024-25 school year, this will complete your registration.

For assistance with the OneList Waterloo Region site, please contact OneHSN Support at support@onehsn.com.

Please be advised that the Professional Activity (PA) Day originally scheduled for April 19, 2024, will now be held on April 8, 2024. This change is being made to ensure the safety and well-being of our students and staff during the Total Solar Eclipse expected on April 8, 2024.

The Extended Day program will not be operating on April 8, 2024, but will be open for regular Before and After School programs on April 19, 2024.

Extended Day

CHANGES TO EXTENDED DAY REGISTRATION POLICY EFFECTIVE JANUARY 8, 2024

OneHSN registration requires four weeks’ notice before a child can begin attending the WCDSB Extended Day Program.

There are times when more than four weeks’ notice may be required if WCDSB Extended Day must hire educators to support the program.

There may be times when a waitlist is implemented due to staffing/capacity limits.  If your child is placed on a waitlist, you will receive an email when a space opens up.

Schedule Changes and Withdrawals

Two weeks’ notice is required if you decide to change your child’s schedule or withdraw from the Before School and/or Afterschool program.

The account holders are responsible for making these changes on their own account.

March Break

For the 2023-2024 school year, families must register for full-day care on March Break separately in OneList by the due date (February 2, 2024). Programs will operate at designated locations.

Space is limited. If you have questions about how to register for care on March Break, please email us at extended.day@wcdsb.ca

August 4, 2023

Hello,

At this time WCDSB is actively working towards licensing our board operated Extended Day Programs. As we are not licensed yet,  there is currently no immediate fee reduction for families who have a child 6 years of age or younger enrolled in school board operated Before and After School Programs. Please be assured that we are actively working towards obtaining the necessary licensing and eligibility for CWELCC funding. Any updates regarding Ministry of Education licensing for Extended Day Programs will be communicated on the WCDSB website on our Extended Day program page.

Thank you for your time,
