Under the direction of the Chief Information Officer, the Manager of Technical Support Services this incumbent is responsible for:


  • Manages the IT Services Supervisor Team as well direct responsibility for staff of one of the Information Technology Services (ITS) Administrative Services team;
  • Manage budget of ITS Administrative Services team;
  • Manage ITS Helpdesk and assigning coverage of Helpdesk function;
  • All ITS Staff attendance management, vacation approval and staff coverage;
  • Mentor, coach, supervise and motivate staff of Administrative Services team and ITS department supervisors;
  • ITS Administrative Services team performance appraisals, task assignments and project management;
  • Responsible for budgeting, development, implementation and maintenance of technology hardware, software and infrastructure
  • Maintain up to date staff role descriptions
  • Responsible for budgeting, development, implementation and maintenance of technology hardware, software and infrastructure
  • Manage, test and keep up to date WCDSB IT Disaster Recovery Plan
  • Institutes business cases, project schedules, training, support and ongoing maintenance for these initiatives.
  • Recommend and implement new procedures, processes and technologies that benefit the school board.
  • Provides consultative services to all departments or schools investigating the application of technology.
  • Request for proposal and tendering management for ITS requirements with Procurement department
  • As a member of the IT Governance Council help determine strategic IT directions for the school board
  • Ensure smooth operation of our central Computer room which provides services to all staff and students, Internet access for the entire school board and numerous department applications
  • Manage portfolio of projects to successful completion, on time and on budget.
  • Lead and participate in audits, assessments and tests to ensure compliance with policies, standards and regulations
  • Ensure service level agreements (SLAs) are defined and agreed for all production capabilities and key performance indicators are regularly reported
  • Partner with vendors to ensure services and capabilities are delivered in accordance with contractual requirements and agreed SLAs
  • Technical representative for WREPNet (Waterloo Region Education Public Network)
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by CIO.



  • A three-year University degree or relevant college diploma coupled with 10 years demonstrable experience in providing technology user support and training users of computer based technology.
  • 5 years experience in managing projects and teams of staff in projects
  • Experience managing an IT project budget
  • Demonstrated experience and an in-depth working knowledge and understanding of the following: Microsoft Office 365, Google Suite, Microsoft Azure, Firewall management, Data Centre Management, WiFi Network Management, Student Information Systems, Network Management
  • Working knowledge of cloud-based applications and infrastructure
  • Thorough understanding of current technologies and applications used by school boards and experience in the support of hardware, software, and wide-area networking technology
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to set priorities and to work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent leadership, communication (verbal and written), and organizational skills
  • A valid driver’s licence and a reliable vehicle.


Desirable Assets:

  • Diploma in School Board Administration (OASBO)
  • Current knowledge of relevant information privacy legislation (MFIPPA)
  • Certificate in Information and Communication Technology Management (OASBO)
  • Experience in an academic setting integrating technology into curriculum to improve student outcomes
  • Experience with an Ontario school board or similar complex public sector employer
  • Project Management Certification (PMI)
  • Comprehensive understanding of ITIL (2011) processes


Salary Level or Salary Range: under Review PASS Level 10 $92,866.- 109,255. in accordance with the PASS Terms of Employment

Hours of Work: Permanent full time: 35 hours per week / 52 weeks per year
