Applications for the position of a Language Instructor – Czech Language are being accepted by the International Languages Program – Elementary for St. Louis Adult Learning and Continuing Education Centres.

IL Instructors directly support the language learning of each student.  They have responsibility related to the program, the students, the parents, the community, and the classroom.  The instructors must understand the concepts of equity and inclusiveness in the Canadian context.

Summary of Duties:

The successful candidate will have a range of responsibilities including:

  • Instruct class accordingly to daily lesson plan using appropriate and relevant resources and current methods of delivery;
  • Develop goal-based short and long-term plans that reflect students’ needs and learning styles;
  • Identify what students are expected to know and be able to do (learning goals) and what it looks like when they are successful (success criteria), and share this information with students and parents;
  • Ensure that students understand established learning goals and success criteria to help them set personal learning goals and to determine how to meet them;
  • Provide each student with feedback based on the learning goals and success criteria, his or her strengths and areas for improvement;
  • Encourage students to use success criteria to monitor their own learning progress (self-assessment);
  • Report formally to parents on student progress as required by the school board;
  • Maintain a positive environment that emphasizes child-centered and activity-based learning in line with other ministry policies;
  • With students develop classroom routines and expectations aligned with the school code of behaviour;
  • Supervise students to ensure their safety and well-being before and during class and after class;
  • Participate in staff meetings, educational conferences, instructor training workshops, and extracurricular cultural events and activities.
  • Make contact with the parents using approved communication channels such as school e-mail, newsletters, board websites;
  • Ensure the classroom and equipment is tidy and secure at the close of class;
  • Ensure that volunteers understand instructor expectations and direction when they engage with students;
  • Other related duties as assigned; 

SKILLS:

  • Fluent in oral and written English and the language of instruction.
  • Ability to manage lessons with classes containing students of several ability levels.
  • Commitment to work effectively as a part of a team.
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to work in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to deliver lessons in a fun and dynamic approach.

EDUCATION:

  • Degree in child development, elementary education, foreign language education strongly preferred.
  • Relevant teaching experience or appropriate related experience with elementary school-age children.
  • Teaching experience from other countries will be considered.
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada

Minimum Requirements:

  • Degree in child development, elementary education, foreign language education strongly preferred
  • Preference will be given to those candidates with professional experience teaching languages & working with children
  • Passionate about different cultures and the power of learning languages
  • Ability to deliver programs in a fun and dynamic approach
  • Fluent in oral and written Chin Language
  • Professional proficiency in English
  • Ability to work successfully with colleagues on a team
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Manager of Technical Support Services, the successful candidate will design, implement, manage and support the Board’s administrative Microsoft server environment and applications, which facilitate a wide variety of business pursuits. The Systems Administrator will be responsible for ensuring the coordination and consistency of Board technology standards to maximize the investment in technology by the Board.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design, manage and support the Board’s administrative server and network environment
  • Provide consulting service and recommend direction to administrative computer users in PC related initiatives, computing methods & procedures in their work environment
  • Install and maintain central network communications, server equipment, system security and connectivity software
  • Implement and monitor controls to mitigate potential security risks to users, systems, and data
  • Investigate and resolve technical problems with server hardware, software and networks
  • Investigate and analyze software upgrades and coordinate relevant implementations

Qualifications: 

  • A three-year college degree or diploma in computer science/information technology or equivalent.
  • Five years of experience providing hardware and software support in a networked computing environment.
  • Experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, PowerShell and scripting, Microsoft 365 and Azure cloud services, Microsoft Exchange, VMWare, Hyper-V, and VEEAM Backup.
  • Working experience with Fortinet security appliances such as FortiGate and FortiManager is a strong asset.
  • Field experience with local and wide area networking and telecommunications.
  • Effective verbal and written communications skills.
  • Superior problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs; a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle are required.
  • Must be available for on call 24/7 and for weekend system maintenance, system failure, system updates, and security events.
  • School Board experience is an asset.

General Description of Duties:

As a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) you will be available for daily occasional, long term and permanent assignments. The responsibilities of the position include collaborating with the classroom teacher to plan and implement the Early Learning Kindergarten program within a classroom setting and/or taking the lead in implementing age appropriate learning for groups of students as part of the Extended Day Program.

 

The RECE will deliver faith-based Early Learning Programs in an environment that enhances children’s cognitive, physical, social, spiritual and emotional development.

  1. Partner with the classroom teacher and other designated staff to plan and implement the Early Learning Kindergarten and Extended Day Program(s) through developmentally appropriate curriculum-based activities
  2. Collaborate with the classroom teacher and other designated staff to support individual student’s identified needs, strengths, interests and stages of development
  3. Observe, monitor and assess the development of pupils in Kindergarten and/or Extended Day Program
  4. Collaborate with the classroom teacher and special education teacher to carry out specialized activities to support learning for children requiring an Individual Education Plan (IEP)
  5. Collaborate with extended day team to implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum based on the Extended Day Program expectations

  7. Provide a variety of experiences to strengthen pro-social skills such as sharing, problem solving and cooperation
  8. Provide guidance in washroom routines, dressing and lunchtime activities

Schedule and Hours of Work:

RECEs are normally called for assignments that range from a start at 8:00 am to those that end at 6:00 pm

Long Term assignments may include schedules that commence at 7:00 am to 2:30 pm or 10:30 am to 6:00 pm

After-School Program Facilitator for Short Term International Students – Revised

General Description of Duties:

After School Program (ASP) Facilitators duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Facilitating and monitoring the ASP delivered at school site
  • Leading, supervising and accompanying students during out-of-school excursions and programs
  • Ensuring students’ safety at all times during the ASP
  • Reporting to Research and Development Office Program Coordinator on a weekly basis to review and assess the effectiveness of the program
  • Working in collaboration with international educators to fully engage students in the participation of the program

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience working with youth of diverse cultural backgrounds, preferably, English Language Learner (ELL) students
  • Previous experience instructing athletic or sporting activities

 

Desirable Assets:

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle

 

Salary Level or Salary Range Starting At  $ 20.00/hr

 

Hours of Work:  casual supply. The Program will run seven (7) days a week: Sun to Mon for 6 hours a day and Saturdays for approximately 10 to 12 hours from May to June and July to August every year.

 

Location(s): 

  • During weekdays, the ASP will be delivered within WCDSB schools, or at a site/venue in the community such as bowling, skating, museum, etc.
  • On Saturdays, students will visit a well-known Canadian venue such as: CN Tower, Niagara Falls, Canada’s Wonderland and others.
