General Description of Duties:

  1. Supports the delivery of curriculum and the development of information literacy by helping patrons locate and use relevant print and electronic resources.
  2. Maintain a physical collection by shelving materials, shelf-reading for shelf order.
  3. Facilitate book exchanges, literacy initiatives, readers advisory, and reading aloud to groups.
  4. Provide orientation and training to students and staff as well providing library services and literacy activities within the school through web pages, and newsletters.
  5. Maintains the library budget and selects new library materials based on Board guidelines and the needs of the school community; communicate with the school administration on priorities.
  6. Produce overdue notices to account for all library materials.
  7. Develop school library collections considering needs of the school and operating within parameters set out in Board policies.
  8. Catalogues and circulates library materials using the automated library system.
  9. Maintains the AV equipment collection, and provides basic set-up and troubleshooting.
  10. Maintains bibliographic records using reports and undertakes regular inventories of the library collection as outlined in Board policies.
  11. Knowledge or training in library systems software including cataloguing and inventory, and online databases.

Job Requirements:

  • Must have completed the Library and Information Technician Diploma in addition to possessing one (1) to two (2) years of experience working with children in a school or public library.
  • Proficient in computer applications; MS Office, library software.
  • Understand the cataloguing and inventory processes.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and sound judgment.
  • Ability to plan work, multi-task and prioritize.

 

Hourly Rate:  $25.94 per hour

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Financial Services, this position will be responsible for:

 

  • Project managing and coordinating accounting software upgrades and online purchasing module
  • Maintaining accounting software code of accounts, updating access for staff and training new staff as required
  • Cheque runs, journal entries and reconciliations related to the transportation consortium and District 8
  • Serving as back-up for the Accounting Supervisor in the day-to-day operations of the accounts payable and receivable department
  • Recording and monitoring of grants and tax levies
  • Review processes between departments in collaboration with stakeholders to research and evaluate possible solutions for improvements
  • Assisting with month end and quarterly reporting, including detailed reviews of programs and accounts
  • Assisting with budget processes such as co-ordination of transportation consortium budget, presentation materials and determining viability of programs
  • Assisting with month end account reconciliations and government remittances
  • Assisting with board and transportation year-end audit preparation
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Professional accounting designation or actively pursuing a designation
  • 3+ years’ experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrated proficiency with technology and advanced computer applications
  • Advanced analytical skills and ability to work independently
  • Excellent communication and language skills

 

Desirable assets:

  • School board or other public sector experience

Job Requirements:

  • Three (3) year Child and Youth Care Worker college diploma;

  • Sound decision making skills with the use of initiative, judgement and resourcefulness;
  • First Aid Certificate;
  • Experience supporting students with autism would be an asset;
  • Have a reliable vehicle and a valid Ontario driver’s license as travel throughout the Waterloo Region may be required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To assist with the implementation of Individual Education Plan/Behaviour Support Plan under the direction of the Classroom teacher and Special Education teacher.
  • To assist students with hygiene and personal care such as toileting, feeding, dressing and mobility devices.
  • To assist students who are experiencing behavioural difficulties.
  • To assist students who may be physically and verbally aggressive.
  • To assist with mobility and transferring from various positions (this may require lifting).
  • To assist operation of specialized equipment.
  • To assist in occupational and physiotherapy strategies as directed by school personnel in consultation with School Health Services.
  • To assist with the supervision of in-school and out-of-school activities for students with challenging needs.
  • To assist students with challenging needs in meeting/boarding the bus/taxi.
  • To assist with data gathering under the direction of the Classroom teacher and Special Education teacher.
  • Regular consultation/meeting with In-school team members.

 

Job Requirements for the supply list:

  • Minimum an Educational Assistant/Support Diploma; or
  • A college diploma/certificate in the following areas will be accepted: Developmental Services Worker/Social Services Worker Diplomas; or
  • Early Childhood Education college diploma with a Resource Teacher certificate or Personal Support Worker certificate*, along with related work experience with children with special needs.
  • The WCDSB will provide BMS (Behaviour Management System) training. If candidates have this training, it is considered an asset.

 

*Note: The Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate is recognized for the Educational Assistant (High Needs) Supply List, but not for permanent Educational Assistant (High Need) positions.  The WCDSB has a job classification of PSW that applicants with this qualification may wish to apply to be eligible for a permanent position.

Child Care Worker(s) – Supply List

General Description of Duties:

As a Child Care Worker, you will be available for daily occasional supply assignments. The responsibilities of the position include collaborating with the Early Learning team (including the classroom teacher and /or Extended Day staff) to plan and implement the Early Learning Kindergarten and Extended Day Programs within a classroom.

The Child Care Worker will assist in supporting a faith-based full day Early Learning Kindergarten program and environment to enhance children’s cognitive, physical, social, spiritual and emotional development.

The successful candidate will have good interpersonal skills to function effectively as a team member, and the ability to follow instructions.  This position reports to the school principal.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • A secondary high school diploma;
  • 18 years of age or over;
  • Canadian citizen with Social Insurance Number or valid work permit to be eligible to work in Canada;
  • Satisfactory criminal background check
  • Experience in working or volunteering with young children;
  • Experience in delivering age appropriate programs;
  • Basic computer competency;
  • Listening and problem-solving skills required when dealing with young children;
  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and move/carry equipment for program; and must be able to physically assist children as required (e.g. lifting).
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner with children, parents, staff and the general public;
  • Proven ability to follow organizational policies and procedures in an appropriate and timely manner;
  • Strong organization and time management skills;

 

Preference:

  • Consideration will be given to those candidates with a diploma or degree in a program such as Early Childhood Education, Recreation and Leisure Services, psychology, sociology or a student currently enrolled in such a program;

 

Responsibilities

  • Assist the classroom teacher and other designated staff to plan and implement the Early Learning Kindergarten and Extended Day program through developmentally appropriate curriculum-based activities;
  • Assist the classroom teacher and other designated staff to support individual students’ identified needs, strengths, interests and stages of development;
  • Assist the classroom teacher and special education teacher to carry out specialized activities to support learning for children requiring an Individual Education Plan (IEP);
  • Collaborate with the Extended Day team to plan play-based learning activities. Activities include but are not limited to crafts, celebrations, outdoor play, free play, etc.
  • Maintain a healthy, physical, emotional and social learning context for students;
  • Supervise and assist children in washroom routines, dressing and lunchtime activities;
  • Assist and maintain set-up of classroom (e.g. display, organization of materials etc.);
  • Complete any duties as assigned by principal.

 

Rate of Pay:  $19.58 per hour (Appendix 2 – CUPE Salary Schedule as at August 31, 2019)

Hours of Work:

  • Schedules will vary from school to school and will range from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.
  • Daily occasional Child Care Workers are normally called for assignments that range from a start at 8 am to those that end at 6:00 pm.

Executive Assistant – Corporate Services

Reporting to the Executive Superintendent of Corporate Services, the incumbent in this challenging position will be responsible for a diverse portfolio of responsibilities which support system and student needs.  Responsibilities include:

 

  • Providing support and training to school users on School Cash Suite (an accounting software system used by schools to process fundraising transactions)
  • Preparation of reconciling entries for the School Cash Suite bank account
  • Administration of targeted one-time grants including maintenance of grant agreements, ensuring compliance with reporting and deadlines, and liaising with academic staff to gather data as necessary
  • Responding to inquiries from staff and parents on matters related to transportation
  • Co-ordinating gratuity payments to retirees
  • Receiving and responding to inquiries related to insurance claims and requests for insurance certificates
  • Through participation in the Risk Management Committee of the Ontario Association of School Business Officials (OASBO) and Ontario School Board Insurance Exchange (OSBIE), make recommendations on managing risk related to student safety and board operations
  • Reconciling quarterly tax levies from municipalities and townships
  • Supporting the Executive Superintendent as necessary including issuing communications, scheduling meetings, and receiving telephone calls and guests
  • Taking minutes at various meetings with some evening meetings required from time to time
  • Distribution of Corporate Services communications to various stakeholders on a weekly basis
  • Maintenance of information on Corporate Services sections of the Board’s website
  • Planning and overseeing an annual professional development day for division staff

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3 Year Diploma in Business Administration or equivalent combination of experience and education

  • Advanced analytical skills, ability to work independently, demonstrate initiative and problem-solving abilities

Registered Early Childhood Educators

(RECE-2019-04)

 

General Description of Duties:

As a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) you will  be available for daily occasional, long term  and permanent assignments. The responsibilities of the position include collaborating with the classroom teacher to plan and implement the Early Learning Kindergarten program within a classroom setting and/or taking the lead in implementing age appropriate learning for groups of students as part of the Extended Day Program.

 

The RECE will deliver faith-based Early Learning Programs in an environment that enhances children’s cognitive, physical, social, spiritual and emotional development.

 

Minimum Job Requirements to be considered for daily occasional, long term occasional  and permanent assignments:

  • Roman Catholic Baptismal Certificate; (Please note: in order to be considered for permanent assignments, a Catholic Pastoral Reference form is also required. In the event you do not provide a Catholic Pastoral Reference you would be considered for Supply or Long Term Occasional Assignments.)
  • A complete Declaration of Commitment
  • A two year community college Early Childhood Education Diploma with experience in a childcare or educational setting
  • Member in Good Standing with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Education full day early learning kindergarten program
  • Experience in planning and implementing age appropriate programs
  • Knowledge of related legislation and pertinent Board policies and directives such as, but not limited to Administration of Medication and/or Special Services

Responsibilities for Both Core and Extended day program:

  • Partner with the classroom teacher and other designated staff to plan and implement the Early Learning Kindergarten and Extended Day Program(s) through developmentally appropriate curriculum-based activities
  • Collaborate with the classroom teacher and other designated staff to support individual student’s  identified needs, strengths, interests and stages of development
  • Observe, monitor and assess the development of pupils in Kindergarten and/or Extended Day Program
  • Collaborate with the classroom teacher and special education teacher to carry out specialized activities to support learning for children requiring an Individual Education Plan (IEP)
  • Collaborate with extended day team to implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum based on the Extended Day Program expectations
  • Maintain a healthy, physical, emotional and social learning context for students
  • Provide a variety of experiences to strengthen pro-social skills such as sharing, problem solving and  cooperation
  • Provide guidance in washroom routines, dressing and lunchtime activities
  • Maintain appropriate records for students (e.g. health, attendance, etc.) respecting confidentiality and adhering to all privacy legislation
  • Collaborate and maintain set-up of classroom (e.g. display, organization of materials etc.)
  • Where applicable, attend staff meetings, appropriate school-level meetings and professional development activities
  • Perform related administrative functions as required such as attendance and billing in the extended day program
  • Complete any duties as assigned by principal or ECE Supervisor

 

Additional Responsibilities for Extended day program:

  • Provide supervision and age appropriate programming for children aged 4 to 12 years

Rate of Pay for Daily Occasional Supply: $21.12 per hour

Rate of Pay (Grid) for Permanent & Long Term in an Assignment 40 consecutive days or more: $21.12 – $27.61 per hour

Schedule and Hours of Work:

Full-time positions:     7 hours/day plus ½ to 1 hour per day unpaid lunch

RECEs are normally called for assignments that range from a start at 8 am to those that end at 6:00 pm

Long Term assignments may include schedules that commence at 7:00 am to 2:30 pm or 10:30 am to 6:00 pm
