The Communicative Disorders Assistant assists the Speech-Language Pathologist (SPL) in the delivery of programs and services to students with communication disorders. The supervising SLP will determine the students with whom the Communicative Disorders Assistant will work, including student admission/demission, program goals, and intervention strategies.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

Under the direction and supervision of the SLP, Communicative Disorders Assistants may:

  • Implement individual/group programs.
  • Assist during assessment by-eliciting and/or collecting language samples, note taking, demonstrating test expectations, collecting demographic information, scoring of assessment results (without interpretation), transcription of recorded speech samples.
  • Conduct various screens using established screening protocols without interpretation.
  • Prepare materials and resources for individual programs.
  • Maintain concise, accurate documentation.
  • Assist SLP’s with in-services and other system-wide activities.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must have completed the Communicative Disorders Assistant Diploma.
  • Must be a member of the Communicative Disorders Assistant Association of Canada (CDAAC).
  • Follow all requirements and procedures set by Speech and Language Services with respect to documentation of activities, reporting and communication.
  • Maintain ongoing professional development by attending all scheduled in-services and training sessions required by Speech and Language Services.
  • Maintain regular contact with the supervising SLP regarding all aspects of programs and services.
  • Respect and maintain confidentiality.
  • Manage time effectively to maximize student contact time while meeting requirements for record-keeping and preparation.
  • Strive to provide the best possible learning environment for student sessions.
  • Prepare and collect materials based on program plans developed by the SLP.
  • Have a reliable vehicle and a valid Ontario driver’s license as travel throughout the Waterloo Region is required.

Hourly Rate:                    $24.53 to $25.97 per hour

Hours/Week:                    Permanent Full-Time, 35 hours per week

                                       Work schedule determined by the supervisor

Weeks/Year:                    Approximately 41 weeks/year

General Description of Duties:

This position will report to and work collaboratively with the Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) Supervisor.   The incumbent will assist in maintaining the operations of the automated absence and dispatch system, as well as provide back up support to the HRIS functions.  This position will serve to support the HRS staffing areas with troubleshooting data functions and system operations.   Responsibilities include the following:

  • Assist in the management of the day-to-day operations of the automated attendance and dispatch program for user accessibility, including establishing priority lists for call out replacement purposes

  • Work collaboratively with the HRIS supervisor to assign functionality between the automated attendance dispatch program and the HRIS interfaces

  • Provide back up support to the HRIS supervisor on specific tasks

  • Assist and support the Human Resource Services (HRS) staff with set up and updating of employee profiles in dispatch program and update absence codes

  • Conduct weekly payroll imports from the dispatch to the HRIS

  • Run weekly reports where required and as requested by staff

  • Maintain the inboxes assigned, respond to inquiries, and troubleshoot user problems

  • Annual maintenance of the dispatch program and interfaces

  • Assist HRS staff with onboarding of new employees on the use of the attendance/dispatch program(s)

  • Provide training, support, and technical knowledge to school/department administration on the associated program(s); update information on the Staffnet related to the program(s) for users

  • Responsible for electronic employee file set up and management, including collaborating with the Privacy Officer where necessary

  • Maintain demographic changes in HRIS related to name/address and other staff changes

  • Maintain data and spreadsheets related to gratuities, disciplinary records, etc.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A three (3) year college diploma in Human Resource Services, Computer Technician or equivalent coupled with three (3) years demonstrable experience in providing user support and training to database application users. 
  • Demonstrated experience and an in-depth working knowledge and understanding of the following:  Microsoft Office; Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft excel
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to set priorities and to work with minimal supervision.

General Description of Duties:

As a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) you will be available for daily occasional, long term and permanent (full and part time) assignments. The responsibilities of the position include collaborating with other educators to plan and implement the Early Learning Kindergarten program within a classroom setting and/or taking the lead in implementing age appropriate learning for groups of students as part of the Extended Day Program.

The RECE will deliver faith-based Early Learning Programs in an environment that enhances children’s cognitive, physical, social, spiritual and emotional development.

Minimum Job Requirements to be considered for daily occasional, long term occasional and permanent assignments*:

  1. Knowledge and understanding of Ministry of Education’sKindergarten Program Document
  2. Experience in planning and implementing age appropriate programs
  3. Knowledge of related legislation and pertinent Board policies and directives such as, but not limited to Administration of Medication and/or Special Services
  4. Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and move/carry equipment for program; and must be able to physically assist children as required (e.g. lifting)
  5. Basic computer competency

  3. Observe, monitor and assess the development of pupils in Kindergarten and/or Extended Day Program
  4. Collaborate with classroom educators and special education teacher to carry out specialized activities to support learning for children requiring an Individual Education Plan (IEP)
  5. Collaborate with extended day team to implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum based on the Extended Day Program expectations
  6. Maintain a healthy, physical, emotional and social learning context for students
  7. Provide a variety of experiences to strengthen pro-social skills such as sharing, problem solving and cooperation
  8. Provide guidance in washroom routines, dressing and lunchtime activities
  9. Maintain appropriate records for students (e.g. health, attendance, etc.) respecting confidentiality and adhering to all privacy legislation
  10. Collaborate and maintain set-up of classroom (e.g. display, organization of materials etc.)
  11. Where applicable, attend staff meetings, appropriate school-level meetings and professional development activities

Rate of Pay for Daily Occasional Supply: $21.87 per hour

Rate of Pay (Grid) for Permanent & Long Term in an Assignment 40 consecutive days or more:

**A shift allowance is provided to qualified RECEs in a permanent or long term 10:30 am to 6:00 pm assignment.

Schedule and Hours of Work:

Full-time positions:     7 hours/day plus ½ to 1 hour per day unpaid lunch

Part time positions:    3.5 hours/day             

Schedules will vary from school to school and will range from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm

RECEs are normally called for assignments that range from a start at 8:00 am to those that end at 6:00 pm

Long Term assignments may include schedules that commence at 7:00 am to 2:30 pm or 10:30 am to 6:00 pm
