CLERICAL AND TECHNICAL POSITIONS – SECRETARY – MAIN OFFICE

General Description of Duties

  • Responsible for operating and maintaining all operations of the Ranger System as well instructing staff in its use;
  • Monitor and maintain photocopiers, video catalogue system in Ranger, telephones, audio and video equipment;
  • Running the media retrieval system as well as overseeing all the internet use and abuse in the school;
  • Collect computer access forms from students and maintain database;
  • Responsible for changing student passwords on the school computers;
  • assist in setting up systems to perform presentations in PowerPoint as well as being responsible for arranging the set-up and maintenance of all audio/video equipment (ie., projectors, sound equipment, computer to TV scanner boxes, TVs, VCR BBS Computer, Ranger Computer and clocks);
  • Working the SBTV show during live broadcasts;
  • Member of Information Technology Committee at the school;
  • Keyboarding, filing, sorting mail, collating reports, maintaining office forms;
  • Order and replace office supplies including mice and replacement bulbs in the overhead machines;
  • Act as back-up to all other secretarial positions as required;
  • Responsible for changing and ordering toner for the printers and the photocopiers.

Qualifications

  • Secondary school education or a level of knowledge and understanding equivalent plus additional training in word processing, office organization and public relations;
  • 1-2 years similar work experience;
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player with decisions involving ingenuity, initiative, judgment and resourcefulness;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with external and internal contacts;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability in Word, Excel and PowerPoint at the basic level with the understanding that these skills will improve beyond the basic level;
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively in an office environment with frequent interruptions, and deadlines;
  • Working knowledge of the Internet, Publisher and scanners would be an asset.
