The Waterloo Catholic District School Board serves over 38,000 learners and provides services to students in 50 schools (Kindergarten to Grade 12 and adult learners) across the Waterloo Region.

General Description of Duties:

 

The duties of the position will include, but are not limited to:

  • Support all aspects of the full-time Study Visa student program from the point of application through to the student’s departure or graduation with WCDSB school system (Secondary, Elementary, Summer Programs)
  • Manage established relationships between international student agents/recruiters, government agencies both provincial and federal, schools in the WCDSB and outside vendors, ensuring ongoing communication is current
  • Work with students and agents/recruiters during the student visa application and process
  • Preparing students for pre-arrival homestay placement through local agencies and assessment testing and course selection with support staff/teachers of the WCDSB and health insurance providers
  • Assisting with the development and ongoing support of an Orientation program for new arriving secondary students and assist with implementation of orientation
  • Work extensively on student database computer program for reporting, information gathering and monitoring purposes
  • As part of a team, on a rotational basis, provide 24/7 on-call support, serving as legal custodian/guardian to international students during their studies in the International Education Program (IEP).  This includes ongoing monitoring, mental health support, wellness checks, academic success for students in the program and responding to urgent medical situations. Assist with monitoring of Homestay providers and students to resolve issues that may arise while here in the program.
  • Accompany students under WCDSB custodian/guardian to medical appointments
  • Submit on behalf of students under WCDSB custodian/guardian applications to IRCC for study permit and visa extensions
  • Supervise and develop program for facilitators working on short term or long-term programs
  • Coordinate and implement extra-curricular activities for students including transportation, budgeting, purchasing of materials, and internal and external support for the short-term and long-term program
  • Develop and implement workshops for teachers and administrators related to welcoming and accommodating foreign visa students
  • Coordinate and develop a professional development (PD) program for foreign educators interested in our system
  • Manage and report on the budget, student attendee numbers and projections and other aspects of the program
  • Able to implement conflict resolution management with school administrators, facilitators, and staff
  • Participate in the external marketing of the WCDSB International Education strategy, including travel abroad
  • Support various initiatives within the Research and Development Office team as required
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • A 3 year Post Secondary diploma or degree in a related field
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Teams, Powerpoint)
  • Secure a Vulnerable Sector Background Check
  • Valid drivers license and personal vehicle

Desirable Assets:

  • Three years business experience managing similar programs
  • Experience in working with english as a second language learners
  • International education experience

Salary Level: PASS Level 5 – $68,062 – $80,074

Hours of Work:  35 hours per week

  • Identifying students’ individual learning needs and using a variety of instructional strategies including small group, individual, whole class, and co-operative learning experiences
  • Evaluating the progress of students and discussing results with students and parents
  • Creating annual reports of students’ performance and challenges, with recommendations for improvement
  • Ensuring a safe academic environment conducive to learning in class and online
  • Promoting positive attitudes towards, and encouraging enthusiasm for language learning
  • Participating in staff meetings, educational conferences, instructor training workshops, and extracurricular cultural events and activities
  • Utilize Virtual Platforms in the online teaching, if necessary, with the Google brand (specifically Meet, Docs, Slides, Forms), YouTube videos
  • Create a lesson from a PowerPoint or Google slide show, add voice if you wish to send the file to students. 
  • Utilize Google Meets to deliver the teaching of reading story/literature, demonstration/writing, reading aloud and conversation with the students
  • Engage students in communicative, real life, task-based language activities which emphasize the 3 strands of oral, reading and writing

Minimum Requirements:

  • Hold a current Ontario College of Teachers Certificate of Qualification (If no candidates with an OCT apply, other candidates will be considered)
  • Intermediate & Senior teaching qualifications in the credit language
  • Demonstrable evidence of instructing in the credit language –Chinese
  • A certification in language instruction from an accredited College or University would be an asset

Salary Level

Secondary School Guidance Department Head

Secondary School Guidance Department Head

St. Louis Adult Learning & Continuing Education

Applications for assignment to a position of added responsibility of Guidance Department Head are invited from all qualified and interested staff. This position is for a three-year term by mutual agreement. The successful candidate may also apply to and be successful for the half time guidance positions posted under AC-2022-202. If successful with both applications, total hours would equal to a full-time assignment.

General Description of Duties: 

  • Collaborate with Administration, Department Heads, Program Managers and Instructional staff regarding student programs, student support and school processes
  • Liaise with community agencies, colleges and universities to gather information and resources
  • Develop, modify and support the training of staff to implement effective registration, student support and reporting processes 
  • Provide functional support and training to guidance staff 
  • Analyze student needs and student registration data to develop course offerings for the annual calendar in consultation with curriculum leads and administration
  • Participate in the development and monitoring of a St. Louis SIEPSA
  • Schedule additional guidance counsellors as needed in collaboration with Administration
  • Maintain guidance information sources for students and staff 
  • Provide monthly activity reports regarding above responsibilities to Administration

Minimum Requirements:

  • Current OCT with Senior Level Qualifications
  • Guidance Qualifications – Part 1 or greater
  • Special Education Qualifications – Part 1 or greater
  • Understanding of OS (Ontario Schools) graduation requirements
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Demonstrated experience implementing PLAR for mature students
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Solid understanding of D2L, Google, Aspen and Microsoft Office programs

Desirable Assets:

  • Understanding of OS (Ontario Schools) Continuing Education nuances and implications
  • Hold additional qualifications in Guidance (e.g. Specialist Qualifications and/or an Honours Degree or Graduate Degree)

General Description of Duties:

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Equity, the Human Resources and Equity Officer will work to support the Board’s commitment to increasing equity, diversity, inclusion and Indigenous initiatives.  A central piece of that commitment is employment equity.  The Human Resources and Equity Officer role will be to assess barriers and develop strategies and initiatives focused on recruiting and retaining a diverse, healthy workforce.  Further, the Human Resources and Equity Officer will work with the Equity Department to provide equity, diversity, and inclusion training for staff throughout the board.

 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Apply equity, diversity, and inclusion and HR knowledge to our local landscape to promote equity and inclusion across the school board
  • Support recruitment and employee retention, make recommendations to identify barriers to employment and provide recommendation to either eliminate or modify policies, practices and systems that hinder retention, development, and advancement of under-represented groups
  • Review, develop, monitor, implement and improve internal human resources processes and systems through and EDI lens to support departments and their operations in an effective and efficient manner
  • Monitor, evaluate, and assess adequacy of diversity of candidates in the hiring and screening process
  • Work with Human Resources to develop recruitment strategies that attract equity-seeking groups
  • Work with members of the EDI department, develops and leads training related to equity, diversity, and inclusion for staff
  • Assist with the management, processing, and investigating when needed, staff experience, feedback, and grievances; build and maintain networks of support for human rights and equity for staff throughout the Board
  • Engage in case management as part of a team for staff issues; analyze, and identify issues, provide mediation, and conflict resolution services, to achieve early resolution, and determine appropriate recommendations
  • Design, implement, and ensure ongoing proactive support for employee groups that seek to enhance and support the development of a culture of belonging
  • Continually monitor EDI activities across the Board and provides update and/or revises as appropriate
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

 

  • Degree in relevant field (i.e., Human Resources), or equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Human Resources, include recruitment and selection and/or organizational development
