School Social Workers
School social workers respond to the social, emotional and practical needs of students and their families through consultation, assessment, direct service and liaison with outside agencies. We help families and schools to identify and correct obstacles which may interfere with children's ability to benefit from educational experiences.
Support services are organized around geographic groupings of schools. Each school has an in-school team comprised of the classroom teacher, principal and special education teacher. This team meets regularly to discuss concerns about children and develop strategies for helping them.
If more ideas or supports are needed, this body then discusses the student’s needs with their collaborative team. This team is composed of the in-school team plus the school social worker, psychoeducational consultant, speech and language pathologist and special education resource teacher.
